Historic F2 Update
After
several disappointing outings in his F2 Marches due mainly to
teething troubles with engine installations, Peter Meyrick driving
his Race Engine Design Hart powered March 782 at the SPA circuit
in Belgium, managed P1 in European F2 qualifying. In the race
proper after a bad start, he dropped down to fifth place but after
some hard driving managed to overtake Steve Maxted’s Lola T360
and Bo Warmenius March 772 but even though he had lost too much
ground to be in touch with the leaders, managed to get on the
podium in third place. In Race two Peter started from pole but
was beaten into second place by Christian Million in his Ralt
RT1, after 3 laps with Peter on his rear wing Million spun at
the Bustop Chicane and Peter went on to lead the race, closely
followed by Martin Stretton in his March 712M and Bob Juggins
in his Lola T240 these three remained locked together in tight
formation up to the end of the race, Meyrick staying on top until
the finish just 0.713 seconds ahead of Stretton with Juggins 8.1
secs in third.

Donnington
Park
On
Sunday April 22nd our two Hart 420R 2ltr engines in March782 F2
cars sat on the grid at Donginton Park, Andy Meyrick 2nd and His
dad Peter Meyrick 5th.

Off the start into Redgate Andy went on the inside of pole sitter
Simon Hadfield in his Formula 5000 car and into the lead, on the
5th lap Andy had a 100yd lead when he lost 4th gear, he carried
on in the lead, fighting off Simon Hadfield until the 11th lap
when Hadfield became frustrated and punted Andy off going through
the chicane, unfortunately after all 4 wheels leaving the floor,
8 X 360 spins and missing the outer wall by centimeters Andy regained
control of the car only to have the engine die as he tried to
regain the circuit, his race was over, Peter Meyrick had by this
time moved up to 3rd place (now second after Andy’s off) overtaking
one F2 car and one F5000 car, he battled for ten laps with a frustrated
F5000 driver unable to catch him but following closely behind,
until spinning off on the inside of the exit of the chicane, leaving
Peter to have a comfortable remaining few laps home to finish
second in his first outing in his March 782. Andy set fastest
lap and won Driver of the Day Award, a good finish to the day. |
